Children in Garden City's primary schools were treated to several special guest readers last month as the school district marked National Library Week. First sponsored in 1958, National Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries across the country each April. The annual celebration, whose 2009 theme was "Worlds connect @ your library," celebrates the contributions of libraries, librarians and library workers in schools, campuses and communities nationwide.

School district administrators and Garden City Mayor Robert Rothschild visited classrooms for dramatic readings from selected, age-appropriate books for the kindergarten and first grade classes at Hemlock, Homestead and Locust Schools.
