Click, Clack, Moo: Cows That Type, an award-winning children's book by Doreen Cronin, was read by Assistant Superintendent for Personnel Mr. Fino Celano to Mrs. Jennifer Solano's first grade class at the Homestead School. Children in Garden City's primary schools were treated to several special guest readers last month as the school district marked National Library Week. First sponsored in 1958, National Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries across the country each April. The annual celebration, whose 2009 theme was "Worlds connect @ your library," celebrates the contributions of libraries, librarians and library workers in schools, campuses and communities nationwide.

School district administrators and Garden City Mayor Robert Rothschild visited classrooms for dramatic readings from selected, age-appropriate books for the kindergarten and first grade classes at Hemlock, Homestead and Locust Schools.

Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction Dr. Teresa Prendergast engaged all of the children in Ms. Stephanie Presti's class at the Homestead School reading another Doreen Cronin book, Giggle, Giggle, Quack during her Read-Aloud session. Superintendent of Schools Dr. Robert Feirsen read Chris Van Allburg's enchanting book, Two Bad Ants, to Mrs. Michelle Abatemarco's first grade class at the Homestead School during National Library Week. At the Hemlock School, Assistant Superintendent for Business Mr. Al Chase read Harry Allard's Miss Nelson is Missing to kindergartners in Mrs. Paula Hogan's class. Hemlock Principal Audrey Bellovin welcomed Garden City Mayor Rob Rothschild to Mrs. Arleen Brown's kindergarten classroom to read Terry Miller Shannon's The Mysterious Package during National Library Week.
