Waldorf Seniors To Present Alice In Wonderland
Garden City, NY, Tuesday, May 19, 2009 - It is a tradition at the Waldorf School of Garden City for classes to perform a play in their senior year, entertaining parents, friends, students, and the community at large. In just a few weeks, the Class of 2009 will perform Alice in Wonderland by Eva Le Galliene and Florida Friebus, based on Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass. The class of twenty-one students will perform three times: Thursday June 4th at 8:00 pm, Friday June 5th at 1:00 pm, and Saturday June 6th at 8:00 pm. All three performances will take place in the school auditorium and are open to the public. Admission is free, but there is a suggested donation of $5.00 per person or $15.00 per family. High School English and Drama teacher, as well as the Director of the play, Mrs. Deirdre Burns Somers said, "This creative, enthusiastic, and eclectic class will bring to life, in all its frabjous glory, a fanciful tale that encapsulates some of the most mimsy characters we've ever encountered in any story. I am beyond excited for the senior class to perform this for the community." Alice in Wonderland takes you on a whimsical journey in which extraordinary characters share their off-beat knowledge and wisdom through enchanting adventures. Alice experiences provoking tales told by characters such as the Mad Hatter, White Queen, Mock Turtle and Caterpillar. The twenty-one seniors will take you on this magical trip. The students put many aspects of their education into their production, exploring their artistic and creative abilities by singing, designing costumes, playing instruments, acting and working backstage managing the sets. It is an integral part of the Waldorf curriculum to stimulate growth and confidence in a student's mind with activities that are presented in creative and exciting forms such as plays. For this intense and comprehensive experience, the students are given a great deal of responsibility as they carry out all aspects of the production.
