News From The Children's Room Summer Program Flyers Available

2009-05-22 / Community

Flyers are available in the Children's Room announcing the variety of summer programs being offered for children of all ages. This year's theme is Be Creative at Your Library. The summer reading program is designed to encourage children to read during the summer and reward them for doing so. So stop in at the Library and check out all that's available for children this summer.

Preschool Connections

This month, the Children's Librarians have been visited by much of the local preschool population. Classes from Cathedral Nursery School, Lutheran Nursery School, Garden Manor Nursery School, St. Anne's Nursery School, and Little People's Play School have all dropped by the Children's Room to listen to stories, dance and sing, and watch a movie. It's great fun for the children, and the librarians!

School Connections

Ms. Jordan's Kindergarten class from Homestead School also visited the Library. Librarians Barbara Grace and Donna Furey even managed to find time to get over to Stratford School and read aloud to students as part of a school wide event. This June, watch for Children's librarians at your school! They'll be visiting with students to talk about the many events planned for the summer.

Children's artwork on display

You may have already noticed the colorful artwork gracing the bulletin boards and walls of the Children's Room, but if not, take a moment to look around. The Library has been displaying the wonderful work of the children of Cathedral Nursery School for the past few months. The Daisy Scouts of Troop 1261 also have some wonderful portraits hanging on the bulletin boards. As you enter the Children's Room, be sure to check out the display case, which contains works by the students of the Art Academy of Garden City.

Please check the library website www.gardencitypl.org for upcoming events and registration dates. Funding for these programs has been provided by the Friends of the Garden City Public Library. Priority for registration and participation is given to children who are Garden City Public Library cardholders.
