MIRACLE Club Will Host 8th Annual Walkathon
The Miracle Club of Garden City High School is hosting its 8 th annual "Miracle Miles" walkathon in memory of Michael J. Tenaglia on Saturday, June 6 th at 1:30 p.m. On the very day the walkathon was announced, more than 100 students at the high school signed up to participate.
Each student solicits personal donations before the event to contribute to the Miracle Foundation, the not-for-profit organization that is dedicated to cancer care, research and awareness. The funds raised at this year's walkathon are earmarked to "Back in the Game," an innovative physical therapy and conditioning program that the Foundation underwrites.
"Back in the Game" helps pediatric cancer patients regain their fitness and conditioning while building their strength and confidence. The program is designed to accelerate the transition of kids' participation back to sports and physical activities.
"The Garden City community has been extremely supportive of their school's efforts," said high school principal Nanine Cuttitta, "and we're proud of our wonderful service clubs like the Miracle and Key Clubs."
The walkathon has been a long-standing tradition among seasoned veterans like high school seniors Caroline Tenaglia, Kelly Lucchesi and Lauren Danks. 'We have attended every walkathon since we were in middle school," said Tenalia, 'and now we're organizing them." Tenaglia urges Garden City residents to support the cause by attending the event, sponsoring a student or by sending a donation to the Miracle Club at the high school, 170 Rockaway Avenue.
