ON MONDAY, May 25, the annual Memorial Day Fair and Crafts Fest will be held from noon to 4 p.m. following the village parade and the memorial services at Garden City Middle School. The fair is sponsored and held on the grounds of The Cathedral of the Incarnation, 50 Cathedral Ave. There will be games, rides, refreshments and crafts. There will also be free patriotic concerts by the Cathedral's organists and choirmasters, Larry Tremsky and Alistair Nelson, will be available. A free tour of the historical cathedral will also be featured... CONDUCTED BY AAA New York in the Garden City office located at 229 Seventh Street, a defensive driving course is being given. The six-hour course allows participants to get the latest driving information from AAA-certified instructors, a 10 percent discount on collision and liability insurance and a reduction of up to four points from driver's license. One hour lunch break on all-day sessions. The cost is $35 for AAA members; $45 nonmembers ($25 senior discount days members 55+*; $25 young driver discount days members 16 to 24**). ON MAY 11, a screen to a bathroom window was found open at a Roosevelt Street house however nothing was found missing...ON MAY 13, a 50-year-old Manorhaven man was arrested at Lord and Taylor after he allegedly stole a $72 CK Euphoria cologne there... ON MAY 14 , an Elmont man, 30, allegedly stole a wallet containing credit cards and cash at Blodgett Hall, Adelphi University. He was later arrested in NYC when trying to get into a movie theater... ON MAY 17 , 4:19 a.m., police responded to the scene of a crime at the Hempstead border where a man had been shot in the head and another man was also shot. Both men were transported to NUMC, where the first man was declared dead... ON THAT SAME day, 10 a.m. , PO Cristiano observed a truck traveling along Stewart Ave./Washington Avenue, without headlights, and he arrested a 39-year-old West Islip man for having 3 suspensions on 3 dates and charged him with aggravated unlicensed operation second degree... ON MAY 13 , Detectives Pedone and Rothermel arrested a 44-year-old Elmont woman for allegedly driving at a high speed in order to run down her ex-husband and his girlfriend in Nassau County Field 6. She was charged with 2 counts of menacing... ON MAY 18 , a 20-year-old GC male was arrested for allegedly making threatening phone calls to his family on May 15... ON MAY 16 , Detective Barone arrested a 20-year-old GC male for the assault of a 20-year-old female at a Garden City location... ALSO THAT DAY, PO Dallolio and Sergeant Jacobsen arrested a 45-year-old Melville woman for the alleged theft of $158 in items; a CK blouse valued at $69 and a CK sweater valued at $89 at Lord and Taylor. The woman was charged for petit larceny and for endangering the welfare of a child as well, because she also allegedly had her 11-year-old daughter helping her with the crime...ON MAY 18, a $100 Motorola GPS was taken from a 2003 Ford Focus parked at 110 Ring Road... A $300 TREK BIKE chained to a pole at the Merillon Avenue train station was stolen on the same day...ON MAY 19, a truck stop was conducted. 12 trucks were inspected with 50 tickets given; 3 weight violations and 6 trucks taken out of service... BETWEEN MAY 15 and 16, 4 cars' windows were found smashed at St. Paul's Field... ON MAY 17 , PO Caputo arrested a 51-year-old Brooklyn woman for allegedly shoplifting 1 Maxx Studio tights valued at $58, 1 Maxx Studio dress at $198 and 1 BCBG dress valued at $65, with a $206 Cynthia Steffe sweater also stolen...

ON MAY 14, the FD ventilated smoke from a cooking fire at a Princeton Street house... FIREMEN RESCUED a kitten caught in a storm drain at Maple Street on May 15... A KILN being used for ceramics at Adelphi University on May 16, caused smoke but no fire... FD removed 2 people from their cars after an accident at Stewart Avenue on May 20...That's all this week.
