Coach Skramko's Third Grade Girls' LAX team had a wonderful day on Sunday, May 10th. There was an amazing new sense of team effort and an incredible display of skills. It's been great to see how well this team is developing. The team had too many ground balls to count, actually 85, and lots of aggressive shots on goal. Olivia Ostrowski, Emma Cashwell, Kaleigh Donovan, Allie Hildreth, Annie Sullivan, Maggie Riceman, Lauren Scattareggia and Julia Kavan had at least 5 ground balls each. Kelly Higgins, Melissa Whitney, Abigail Paisley and Jennifer Medjid had 4 pick-ups each. Caroline Dolan scooped up 3 loose balls. The team shared in celebrating the good game play with the Rockville Centre team and all of their moms. Thanks to the coaches, both teams presented their mothers with white roses at half-time to celebrate Mother's Day.
Happy Mother's Day
With a lead during most of the game, the Rams had an opportunity to work on positioning, footwork and passing. Lauren Durand was amazing in goal, denying 4 attempts to score and making 2 saves which were made from point blank range in rapid succession. She was quick on her feet and very effective as goalie. Thanks to excellent stickwork, goals were scored by Annie Sullivan (2), Lauren Hammersley, Jennifer Medjid, Emma Cashwell, and Lauren Scattareggia. Kaleigh Donovan had a nice shot on goal that just missed. Melissa Whitney, Kaleigh Donovan, Emma Cashwell and Maggie Riceman were true playmakers. They beautifully fed the ball to their teammates and showed speed and endurance. Twenty-two passes were caught by these girls. Annie Sullivan caught 4 passes, Melissa Whitney, Lauren Scattareggia, and Kelly Higgins each caught 3. Georgia Casola, Sophia Leiter, Allie Hildreth, Caiitlin Bianchi and Caitlin Cobb transitioned the ball and fed the ball to the wings. Kelly O'Keeffe, Katherine Mulvihill and Abby Paisley showed continuous effort by marking their opponents and moving the ball toward the goal. Julia Kavan, Sarah Mc Donald, Jordan Murray and Lauren Skramko dodged and cut around players. While, Olivia Ostrowski and Lauren Hammersley jumped into opponents passing lanes and intercepted balls.
Jennifer Medjid Scores!
The best part of the day was when the team was up by 4 goals and the 3 pass rule kicked in. The girls TWICE completed 3 passes and scored! What a great accomplishment. The Rams were quick, showed poise on the field and ended up victorious, 6-1, over RVC and look forward to next week's game at Cold Spring Harbor. Congratulations girls!
