The Trojans knew it would be a tough game when they faced Farmingdale on Saturday morning, May 9th. Although Farmingdale sat alone at the top of the girls lacrosse Conference I division the Dalers still had something to prove. They lost the 2008 Class A title to West Genessee and would like nothing more than a chance to bring home the state title. Garden City is the 2008 Class B state champion but now the conferences have changed, placing the Trojans and the Dalers in the same conference for 2009.
As the mist and rain cleared last Saturday, the game began with both teams playing hard. The Trojans kept it close and trailed 6-5 at the end of the first half. Farmingdale was able to pull away in the second half and outscored GC 9-4 to go on to win 15-9. Scoring for Garden City were: Caroline McTiernan, 2 goals, 3 assists; Caroline Tarzian, 2 goals; Shannon Mangini, 1 goal; Katie D'Antonio, 1 goal; Emily Norell, 1 goal, 1 assist; Lauren Terracciano 1 goal, and Barbara Sullivan, 1 goal. Alex Bruno also added an assist. GC goalkeeper Kelly Weiss made 11 saves.
