New York State Department of Education has released the 2007-2008 state assessment results in the New York State District Report Card Comprehensive Information Report (CIR). The CIR provides annual results on Regents examinations, Regents competency tests, second language proficiency examinations, New York State English as a Second Language Achievement Tests, elementary- and middle-level social studies tests, and New York State Alternate Assessments, as well as cohort performance results in social studies and science. The CIR also provides information on high school completers and non-completers and on post-secondary plans of graduates.

As summarized on the 2007-2008 CIR, Garden City students have consistently improved at the mastery level (scoring at or above 85%) in high school Regent Exams, most notably in Mathematics B, Living Environment, Physical Setting/ Physics, and Comprehensive French, German and Latin.

The district offers 22 Advanced Placement (AP) courses, affording students greater opportunities to participate in Advanced Placement courses on a yearly basis. Enrollments in these classes have shown marked increases. For example, in May 2007, 772 Advanced Placement exams were administered, while in May 2008, 913 AP exams were administered - an increase of 141 exams in just one year.

"We have noted an increase in the number of students who choose to enroll in the more rigorous courses offered at Garden City High School," commented Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction Dr. Teresa Prendergast. "It's all about college readiness - we are interested in preparing our students for the post-secondary experience. We have increased the percentage of students who have earned the Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation, the highest diploma in New York State." In Advanced Placement English Literature, for example, Garden City High School enrolled twice as many students as the average Nassau County school district, while in AP Statistics enrollments were four times the Nassau County norm.

For 2008, 93 Garden City High School students were honored as AP Scholars (grades of 3 or higher on 3 or more exams); 15 students were named AP Scholars with Honor (grades of at least 3.25 on all AP exams taken and grades of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams); 39 students were named Scholars with Distinction (grades of at least 3.5 on all AP exams taken and grades of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams), and 3 National AP Scholars (grades of at least 4 on all AP exams taken and grades of four on eight or more of these exams).

For the 2007-2008 school year, Garden City High School graduated 100% of students with Regents diplomas, and 80% of students received a Regents Diploma with Advanced Regents Designation, an increase of 6% from the previous year. This level of achievement supports our students as they compete for college acceptances. For the Class of 2008, 80% of graduates were accepted to Princeton Review's Best Colleges.

The State Education Department has also released the results of the 2009 English Language Arts assessment for grades 3 - 8. This year, grade level results range between 94-98% of our students achieving levels 3 & 4. Longitudinal results for the years 2007-2009 are as follows:
