Fire Department Chief William Graham informed the Board of Trustees at its May 7th meeting that the department has been awarded $11,269 from the Signature Group of Companies and the Fireman's Fund Insurance Company.

According to Chief Graham, the funds will be used to purchase six new portable two-way radios, along with chargers, that will improve the department's communication with neighboring departments when mutual aid support is needed. Funds have also been earmarked for four new multi-gas detectors. These new-generation gas instruments will be used by responding units to measure dangerous levels of combustible gas, carbon monoxide and hydrogen sulfide. An elevator key set will also be purchased with the money.
