Guided Imagery
Tuesday, June 9, 2009 7 to 8:30 pm
Experience a deep relaxing meditation and guided imagery encounter that can increase physical and emotional well-being. The power of imagination can stimulate changes in your body, create calm and focus and enhance awareness of your "inner world." Research shows that this interactive approach helps reduce symptoms and affect the overall outcome of many therapies.
Instructor Lynne Fain, MA, LCSW, psychotherapist and educator trainer, is certified in interactive guided imagery. She taught meditation at Cancer Care and South Nassau Communities Hospital, Mental Health Counseling Center. She is a cancer survivor with private practices in Nassau and Suffolk counties.
Kripalu Danskinetics
Wednesday, June 24, 2009 7-8:30 PM
For people who enjoy moving to music but might be lacking the energy for strenuous exercise, Danskinetics presents guided movements in a non-judgmental format. Exercise improves muscle tone, flexibility and balance while releasing inner tensions. Feel the power of music through dance. If you can take a brisk walk, you can do Danskinetics.
No dance experience necessary; just wear comfortable clothes and shoes and bring bottled water.
JoAnn Devine is a 13-year breast cancer survivor whose first support community was the Adelphi program. A lifetime dancer, she found that yoga helped her after her diagnosis. Her years in yoga brought her to Kripalu Yoga. There she found Danskinetics, joining her passions of yoga and dance.
The Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program has been helping New Yorkers for nearly thirty years. The hotline number is 800-877-8077.
