Patriettes Win Back To Back League Games
Patriettes Win Back To Back League Games
On Saturday April 26th the Garden City U12 Patriettes were looking to get their first win in League play after a loss and tie in their first 2 games. The day was summer like which was perfect for a game played in memory of a friend. The Patriettes came out with a sense of determination and confidence for their game against the Massapequa Blaze. Both teams played the first few minutes feeling each other out. However, as the half went on it could be seen that the Patriettes were first to the ball and playing better team soccer than their opponents. This started with the always strong defense of Jillian Curtin, Julia Biscardi, and Claudia Caracciolo and Isabel Balady in goal. The past 2 weeks the Patriettes had been working hard in practice on getting more scoring opportunities. All this work paid off when Kelly McDonnell took a feed from and put a shot from the top of the 18 over the outstretched arms of the goalie and gave the Patriettes a 1-0 lead. The half continued with the Patriettes forwards of Margot McTiernan, Kaytlyn Kaczynski and Annie Kane putting pressure on their opponents. This resulted in two more goals both by Mary Kate Kenny that ended the half with the Patriettes leading 3-0. In the second half the Patriettes focused on ensure in they kept their lead by playing strong defense. Also having the lead gave some of the girls an opportunity to play some new positions which was fun. The whistle blew and the Patriettes had their well deserved victory and shout out 3-0. Next Up Plainview Old Bethpage Crossfire. This past Saturdays game started with weather of 180 difference from the prior week. Cold and damp was how the day started but the Patriettes began early to heat up the pitch. As in any game the midfield is often the key to a match. This game was no different. With Alexis Leighton, Christie Pflume and Maddy Stone controlling the midfield the Patriettes had opportunity to go on the offensive end. Only 5 minutes into the game, off a pass from Jillian Gregory, Erin Rode made a feed to the center of the field where Laurel Nothel, took a shot that went right inside the post and put the Patriettes up 1-0. Just a few minutes later the forwards worked together to provide a lead pass to the middle of the field where Laurel again shot from the top of the 18 and the Patriettes were up 2-0 in less than 10 minutes. The Patriettes keep up the pace for the rest of the half and closed the scoring with a well placed shot by MaryKate Kenny to make it 3-0 at the half. The second half started with the Patriettes continuing to control the field. The girls put pressure on goal a strong feed was made across the front of the goal where Erin Rode placed the teams 4th goal into the back of the net. Similar to last week's game the girls had a chance to play some additional positions. Halfway thru the half, Becky Reifler scored the team's 5th and last goal. In 2 weeks the Patriettes went from 7th place to tied for 2nd. CONGRATULATIONS girls and good luck this Saturday.
