Garden City Boys 3rd Grade Blue Lacrosse

2009-05-08 / Sports

The third grade boys blue lax team traveled to Northport this past Sunday and began play on a wet, muddy field. The teams appeared to be evenly matched during the opening minutes of play, but then the GC boys got going. To open the scoring, Ryan George sent a well-timed pass to middie Liam Muldoon who fired a shot at the Northport goal. Attackmen Liam Glynn and Brendan Fitzgerald dominated the ground balls to keep play in the offensive end of Garden City.

Just a few minutes later, Ian Gallagher scooped up a loose ball and took a long run toward the opponent's net and executed a well placed shot past the opposing goalie. Middies Connor Clark, Colin Crean and Luke Solferino showed true grit fighting hard for every loose ball. With the blue team leading 2-0 at half, the boys re-grouped and the coaches talked strategy with the team. Brian Greene then battled for the ball and executing some fine stick work headed for the Northport net. Brian's powerful shot hit the back of the net, and Garden City led by a score of 3-0. On attack, Nicholas Bambino fought hard behind the offensive goal to win the ball, and Jack Tynan hustled down the field with the ball placing a good shot which just missed the Northport net. After winning the ball, middie Kieran Paskewitz sent a beautiful pass to waiting middle Andrew Costigan who fired the last goal of the game past the Northport goalie. Middies Kyle MacLeod, John Brennan and Steven Adams ran tirelessly throughout the game shutting down Northport's offensive attempts. John McDonald, playing goalie for the entire game, recorded the first shutout of the season making several terrific saves behind the fine defensive work of Pat Kavan.

Congratulations to all the boys for another outstanding effort.
