Italian Students Hear About Sculptor
On Thursday, April 23, Dr. Mario Macaluso visited the Garden City High School to give a presentation to Italian students taught by Mrs. Lea Brunetti. Dr. Macaluso spoke in detail about Italian sculptor Gian Lorenzo Bernini, one of the most famous Baroque-style sculptors of the seventeenth century. Bernini was born in Naples, Italy and went on to produce famous sculptures such as The Ecstasy of St. Theresa and Apollo and Daphne. He also designed the famous piazza and colonnades at St. Peter's in Vatican City. Dr. Macaluso spoke about the influence the Baroque style had on Roman architecture and showed slides on many of Bernini's works.
This was a great experience for Garden City High School's Italian language students! (Written by Kyle Lynch (10th grade)
