GCMS 6th Graders Receive Silver And Bronze

Crapotta, Nicole Gemmiti, with Nassau County Comptroller, Howard Weitzman Garden City Middle School sixth graders, Nicole Gemmiti and Michael Vincent Crapotta have received distinguished awards by Nassau County's Poet Laureate Maxwell Cordyon Wheat, Jr. At the Saturday, April 25 th awards ceremony, Nicole received the silver award for her poem titled "The Shot Heard 'Round the World." Michael Vincent received the bronze award for his poem titled "My Hush Puppy." Two thousand children throughout Nassau County participated in this poetry contest. Both Nicole and Michael Vincent were beaming when they received their medals and certificates. Each received an autographed copy of "young voices: An Anthology of Voices," presented to them by Mr. Wheat. The anthology contains all 196 contest winners poems from kindergarten through 12 th grade. Every Nassau County library will have a copy of this anthology. A copy of the collection was presented to Dr. Osroff, Mrs. Lee and Mr. Marr for the Garden City Middle School library. In addition, both students accepted an award presented to them by Nassau County's Comptroller, Howard Weitzman. Garden City was among thirteen school district's who received an award of literary distinction. Congratulations to Nicole and Michael Vincent for the medals they won, and for a job well done!
