The Broadway season ends on April 30th and, just under the wire on April 29th as the members of The Community Club of Garden City and Hempstead heard a panel of their peers present their own personal assessment of the current offerings on The Great White Way.

Drama/Literature Chairperson Prem Chauhan introduced Betty Pupke, the Panel Moderator who, in turn, introduced the first panelist, Willa Ward. Ms. Ward reviewed Dividing the Estate by Horton Foote, who has been called America's Anton Chekhov.

Ms. Ward was followed by Geraldine McHugh who discussed three plays which all happened to deal with dysfunctional families, Distracted and The Aristocrat by Brian Friel. Ms. McHugh had particular praise for 83 year old Angela Lansbury's performance as Mme. Arcati in the revival of Noel Coward's Blithe Spirit. This play was originally presented in war-torn London in 1941 and ran for almost 5 years.

Two plays by Henrik Ibsen were reviewed by Joan Afflerbach. After discussing Hedda Gabler and The Master Builder. Me. Afflerbach talked about the comedy The Marriage of Betty and Boo.

The last panelist, Marye Heston, told how she enjoyed Walt Disney's The Little Mermaid because she saw it through the eyes of her young niece who was her guest at the performance. Ms. Heston then reviewed a trio of off-Broadway plays, Ruined, The Marvelous Wonderettes and Chasing Manet.

Ruth LaBosco and Prem Chauhan did double duty taking care of arrangements for the day as well as serving as pourers. Adele Lynch and Lillian LaPlac greeted guests at the door. Jennie Catania took care of hospitality and Anne Daly and Phyllis Dima's use of a variety of old Playbills decorated the Casino.
