ON FRIDAY MAY 8, Clark Botanic Gardens will host its 39th annual Spring Plant Sale to be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Also on May 9 and May 10. It will feature annuals, perennials, herbs, shrubs, hanging baskets, vegetables, wildflowers, and "unusual plants" for the Long Island garden. The gift shop, tea room, and art show will be open and on display. There is no admission fee. The event will be held rain or shine. She was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:06 p.m...Also on May 1, 1:30 p.m., PO ROCCO arrested a 23-year-old Hempstead man for allegedly shoplifting 2 Swaroski earrings valued at $230, from Lord and Taylor...A GRAY 2005 Cadillac CTS valued at $15,000 was stolen at Field 9 E, between 3:15 and 5 p.m., on May 1... His car was not registered...THREE BICYCLES were stolen from an unlocked , detached garage at Cedar Place on April 28.... FIRE RESPONSES:

ON MAY 1, a treadmill was found smoking at the US Marine Corps, 605 Stewart Avenue. The smoke was extinguished by a dry chemical extinguisher and the power cord was pulled...A blown radiator hose caused smoke in a car on Clinton Rd. on May 2...TWO YOUNG children were locked in a second floor bedroom at Butler Place on May 3. The FD arrived, extended a ladder to the second floor, and eventually coaxed one of the kids to open a locked window there...CLEANERS ACCIDENTALLY left a gas valve open in the deli section at Key Food the night before an odor of gas was detected there. The building was evacuated while the FD worked on the problem...A TREE limb came down on wires in the rear yard of a Poplar St. residence on May 6 and LIPA was notified...
