ON FRIDAY MAY 8, Clark Botanic Gardens will host its 39th annual Spring Plant Sale to be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Also on May 9 and May 10. It will feature annuals, perennials, herbs, shrubs, hanging baskets, vegetables, wildflowers, and "unusual plants" for the Long Island garden. The gift shop, tea room, and art show will be open and on display. There is no admission fee. The event will be held rain or shine. John Hayes is once again at the helm as director of this hilarious comedy that promises to be one of the best ever produced by the Herricks Community Players. BETWEEN MAY 1 and 4, a a laptop valued at $900 was stolen from a Franklin Avenue office...BETWEEN MAY 2 and 3, a 1996 Saturn was found damaged with its front windshield broken, 2 side windows smashed and interior damaged. $1,000...PO DALLOLIO observed a 24-year-old Franklin Square man was observed allegedly speeding at 50 in a 30, and allegedly DWI (.18) with no seatbelt (driver), at Rockaway Avenue, on May 3, 1:27 a.m...ON MAY 1, a witness saw a woman who apparently committed suicide at the LIRR, near NHP Rd. She was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:06 p.m...Also on May 1, 1:30 p.m., PO ROCCO arrested a 23-year-old Hempstead man for allegedly shoplifting 2 Swaroski earrings valued at $230, from Lord and Taylor...A GRAY 2005 Cadillac CTS valued at $15,000 was stolen at Field 9 E, between 3:15 and 5 p.m., on May 1... ON MAY 2, 6:16 p.m., PO Dallolio arrested a 20-year-old Hempstead male for alleged DWI (.10%) when he was observed sleeping at the wheel of his car at West Street/Old Country Road...ON APRIL 30, GC detectives arrested a 61-year-old Bronx man for 2 counts of forgery, 2 counts of grand larceny, and 2 counts of ID theft, stemming from 2 incidents dating back to January 10 where the man had allegedly received $4700 from a Wachovia bank at Old Country Rd. and from another Wachovia bank at Franklin Avenue by the use of someone else's identity...ALSO ON APRIL 30, PO K. Wehr arrested a 25-year-old Hempstead male for alleged speeding at 44 in a 30, unsafe lane change, and for alleged DWI (.08%) at Franklin Avenue...BETWEEN APRIL 25 and 26, unknown persons damaged a large cement flower urn valued at $600 at Washington Avenue...ON APRIL 28, 9:20 a.m., PO Federlein arrested a 54-year-old Garden City man for felony aggravated unlicensed operation ( 12 suspensions on 12 dates) after the motorist was involved in a property damage car accident at Stewart Avenue/Euston Rd. His car was not registered...THREE BICYCLES were stolen from an unlocked , detached garage at Cedar Place on April 28.... TWO TRUCK STOPS were conducted: one on April 29 at Clinton Rd: with 13 trucks inspected, 62 tickets issued, 4 trucks taken out of service; 1 for overweight and one on April 30, where 15 trucks were inspected with 57 tickets issued; and 7 trucks taken out of service...
FIRE RESPONSES:
ON MAY 1, a treadmill was found smoking at the US Marine Corps, 605 Stewart Avenue. The smoke was extinguished by a dry chemical extinguisher and the power cord was pulled...A blown radiator hose caused smoke in a car on Clinton Rd. on May 2...TWO YOUNG children were locked in a second floor bedroom at Butler Place on May 3. The FD arrived, extended a ladder to the second floor, and eventually coaxed one of the kids to open a locked window there...CLEANERS ACCIDENTALLY left a gas valve open in the deli section at Key Food the night before an odor of gas was detected there. The building was evacuated while the FD worked on the problem...A TREE limb came down on wires in the rear yard of a Poplar St. residence on May 6 and LIPA was notified...
