RECREATION CAMPS ANNOUNCED

The Recreation Department has scheduled the following camps for our Garden City resident youth. Registration will be by mail only and will be announced in an upcoming article. The dates and age groupings are listed below. All camps are held in the morning unless otherwise noted. Camps that are listed by age must be that age by the start of the camp. Proof of age may be required.

MEN'S OVER 35 SOFTBALL LEAGUE NOW REGISTERING

Roster packages for the Garden City Recreation Department's Men's Over 35 Softball League are now available. This league plays on Sunday evenings. Rosters will be accepted from teams meeting the following eligibility requirements:

1. Teams must be comprised of residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City.

2. All players must be over 35 years of age or turning 35 during the course of the season.

The fee for this league is $500, which includes games, balls, and umpires. Application packages can be picked up at the Recreation Department in Village Hall. The completed roster package will be accepts until May 11th or until 12 completed packages are received.

WANT TO PLAY SOME SOFTBALL

Of you are a resident of the Inc. Village of Garden City, age 18 or over, who would like to play softball in one of the Recreation Department's softball leagues. Call the Recreation Office at 465-4075 to put your name on our "player list". We sometimes have coaches who call looking for extra players to round out their rosters. Call and leave your name, age, address, and phone number and we will keep your name on file for the team who is looking for extra players.

aquafina pitch, hit and run competition

The Garden City Recreation Department will again host the local level of Aquafina Pitch, Hit and Run Competition on Thursday, May 7 th at 4 p.m. in Grove Park. This national competition is free and is open to any resident of the Village of Garden City who will be 7 - 14 years of age by July 17 th. The competition involves pitching at a target, hitting for distance and accuracy off a tee, and running bases. Preregistration is necessary. To register for this event, please visit the Recreation Office at 108 Rockaway Avenue by Wednesday, May 6th.

REGISTRATION FOR SPRING/SUMMER

ADULT TENNIS BEGINS

The Garden City Recreation Department will conduct evening tennis lessons for adults who are residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City at the Community Park Tennis Facility. The lessons will run for one hour each week in three sessions during the spring/summer months. The registrant has a choice of a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday class and a choice of time. There will be a maximum of four players per court. The dates and fees will be as follows:

Session 1 - 6 weeks beginningMay 4 Cost $120

Session 2 - 4 weeks beginningJuly 6 Cost $80

Session 3 - 4 weeks beginningAugust 3 Cost $80

To register, please visit the Recreation's Administrative Offices at 108 Rockaway Ave. (St. Paul's Athletic Complex) by April 21.

Women's Weekday

Tennis Leagues

Sign ups for next season's Recreation Department Women's Tennis Leagues begin on Monday, April 6 th. All players wishing to join can pick up and fill out an application at Community Park.

Current players have the first choice to rejoin their league and must be signed up for next season by Friday, May 8, 2009. After this date openings will be filled on a 1st come 1st served basis by qualified players, so get your application in as soon as possible. All new players must attend a try-out (to be rated) with one of our pros before they can play in the league. You do not have to try out for learn and play leagues. If you do not get into the league of your choice, you may sign up as a sub player. There is no cost to be a "sub" and subs are often used. We will do our best to accommodate players however there is limited court time and a limited number of openings in the women's tennis leagues.

The fee to play is $420. per person for doubles and $430. per person for singles leagues. A non-refundable deposit of $100 is required at the time the application is received in order to hold your place.
