GCAA Travel Baseball — U8 Warriors Split Weekend Games
Another successful inning at catcher for John Murphy
On Saturday, the GC Warriors traveled to East Islip to play the L.I. Junior Ducks for the second time in two weeks. While the Warriors played well, they lost to the Ducks by a score of 13-8. On defense Billy Duff had an outstanding game at first base, where he turned an unassisted double play. Despite close calls going against them, the Warriors battled back with Evan Jozkowski reaching first three times, John Murphy belting three hits and driving in a run, and Patrick Creaven leading the scoring with two RBIs. Matt DeSimpliciis, George Germano, Billy Duff, Tommy Powderly and Joey Perrini each added an RBI. Although the rally fell short, the Warriors gave the Ducks something to remember them by in the final inning — a blast down the left field line by Garrett Going for a triple.
The Warriors had a better result on Sunday, with a 4-0 win over the L.I. Inferno (Team 1) in Deer Park. The power pitching trio of Mark DiPierro, Billy Duff and Layne Meyer once again held their opponents scoreless. On offense the Warriors manufactured runs with walks, steals and sacrifices, and Mark DiPierro had the hit of the day with a bomb to the centerfield fence for a triple. The defense was excellent with several Warriors showing off their arms. Garrett Going threw out an Inferno runner trying to steal third (with Joey Perrini applying an expert tag) and Liam Widell gunned out a runner at first from the outfield. Patrick Creaven made a great catch in center that saved two runs, followed by a strong throw home to stop the Inferno runners from tagging up.

It was a great weekend for baseball, and the Warriors and their coaches are excited to be 3-1 through the first half of the season, which puts the Warriors in first place in a very competitive travel league. The Warriors are looking forward to another good game this weekend as they host the 2-1 Roslyn Sharks at Stewart field.
