Spanish Students Win At Poetry Competition

Garden City High School students in Dr. Christina Failla's Spanish 4R classes and Ms. Marie Nuzzi's Spanish 4H class competed on April 24th in the Hofstra University Concurso Anual de Poesía (Annual Poetry Competition) open to high school students in New York State. Pictured here are the Garden City Spanish students who were recognized for their performances (left to right): James Mignon, Amanda Sena, Melissa Nazar, Kaitlin Harrison, and Victoria Seskin. The students recited the poetry of Jorge Luis Borges, Juan Ramón Jiménez, Pablo Neruda, Antonio Machado and Nicanor Parra which they studied in their Spanish classes.

Melissa Nazar, a student in Dr.Failla's class won the 1st place trophy and Amanda Sena, from Dr. Failla's class won 2nd place among all Level 4 Spanish students. James Mignon, another student in Dr. Failla's class, and two of Ms. Nuzzi's students, Kaitlin Harrison and Victoria Seskin, received certificates of recognition for their Level 4 performances.

We are so proud of the performances of all of the Spanish students who shone such a positive light on the Garden City School District.
