Concert By Las Cantantes At Cathedral

The Las Cantantes women's choir from the University of New Mexico will be in concert at the Cathedral of the Incarnation on Friday, May 29.The Las Cantantes women's choir from the University of New Mexico will be in concert at the Cathedral of the Incarnation on Friday, May 29. The Las Cantantes, the women's chorus of the University of New Mexico makes their New York City debut with performances at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Grace Church, Church of the Heavenly Rest and a special evening performance at the Cathedral of the Incarnation on Friday, May 29 at 7:30 p.m. The organist will be Stephen Tharp.

The auditioned group is comprised of 21 singers and performs the finest literature written for treble voices. Las Cantantes, directed by Dr. Maxine Thevenot, was founded in 1994, and over the years has collaborated with such important musical figures as Libby Larsen and Dave Brubeck. The chorus has also enjoyed master classes by such eminent musicians as Alice Parker and Moses Hogan. They have three compact disc recordings including their December 2008 Christmas Cd release, My Dancing Day available on the Raven CD label. Their program will include works of Richard Kidd, Eleanor Daley, duke Ellington, Kinley Lange, Nathaniel Dett, folksongs from around the world, works of Pergolesi, Britten, Palestrina, Brahms and more!

The suggested donation for this concert is $10 for general seating, $5 for senior citizens and students and children under 13 are admitted free.
