Spring has finally come and even the trees have begun to do their bit for the landscape. All you heard this past week were the rave reviews for Adelphi University students production of Edna Ferber's play Stage Door. The acting was wonderful, the sets and costumes in time with the era, and nothing was heard at the end but the applause from the audience. This continued through the six day run and into a reception - Garden Party at the home of one Adelphi couple's garden. Enjoying meeting the cast of the production were Alice Brown, Mary Polak, Jean Kuster, Duncan and Maureen Fraser, Miriam and Dick Benack, and other Alums of Adelphi. It was a wonderful ending for a wonderful show.

May will bring, along with more flowers. the winddown of many clubs in town. Those who work for these clubs deserve some downtime to rest, garden, and swim in the Garden City Pool. Those pool applications usually come some time in May and by mid-June we should be splashing in the cool waters. What a wonderful thought!

However, it's not all over yet for clubs and organizations. John Donovan and the members of our American Legion Post and its Woman's Auxiliary are finalizing their plans for the Memorial Day Parade. This is a day to honor our Veterans and show our support for them and those working to make the parade and and the sale of the Poppies a success. These hard working people are inviting you all to include both the service at the Cathedral of the Incarnation, the Parade, and the services at the Middle School a part of your Memorial Day weekend. Buy a poppy, wave a flag, and enjoy a wonderful day.

The Garden City Casino held its next to the last Lunch/Bridge recently and enjoying the afternoon were Sue Hall, Edie Cox, Eda Meglio, Louise Butler, Blanche Muller, and Frieda Stark. The next and final bridge for the season will be held on Tuesday, May 12. This is a week earlier than their usual 3rd Tuesday so don't miss it.

The Community Club of Garden City and Hempstead held its final Board meeting for the year, followed by a luncheon to honor President Marye Heston for her work during the past two years. The new club officers will then meet early in May to finalize their programs for the 2009-2010 season and they all sound great. Club work may be time consuming but it's well worth it for the wonderful programs and tours that they provide.

Jane Cox, a long time member of the Garden City Branch of A.A.U.W. was honored at an Interbranch Luncheon. Jane's comment at the end of the ceremony is worth repeating. "My reward at that day was but a continuation of the rewards received on a daily basis by knowing the members and having association with them during all our years in the Garden City Branch." Nobody could say it better and it's what club work gives to its members. Congrats to you, Jane. The Branch';s Installation Luncheon will be held on June 1st.

Friends of Elizabeth Dorothy Miller attended a Memorial Service this past Saturday at the Garden City Community Church to honor her life and mark her passing. Elizabeth attended St. Mary's Cathedral School, Wagner College and Adelphi University and fought the good fight against ovarian cancer for seven and a half years. She was a beautiful lady in every way and will be missed by her daughter, her mother, and all her friends and family. Born May 30, 1960, she left us on March 22 of this year. Her tribute was "A beautiful life that came to an end, she died as she lived, everyone's friend.?
