Free Workshop For Breast Cancer Patients

2009-05-01 / Community

A free workshop on oriental medicine is offered to those who have had breast cancer on Wednesday, May 13, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The workshop, which is sponsored by the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program, is held at Adelphi University's Alumni House in Garden City.

Many techniques are used to strengthen the immune system and help to establish balance. The ancient arts of oriental medicine can be practiced as an adjunct to chemotherapy and radiation. Participants will see demonstrations of acupuncture, cupping, and gua sha, and practice qi gong, an art that combines movement and meditation to enhance the mind/body connection and assist in healing.

The workshop is conducted by Liz Snow, BS, MS, an oriental medicine practitioner with a private practice in East Norwich. Ms. Snow is nationally certified as a Diplomate in acupuncture and Chinese herbology and is also a qi gong practitioner and instructor. She was a member of a task force that developed oriental medicine protocols for treating breast cancer and is a breast cancer survivor herself.

This program is open only to breast cancer patients and survivors and is supported by a grant from the LI2Day Walk to Fight Breast Cancer. Pre-registration is required. Call 516-877-4325.
