Garden City Budget News By Roy S. Ryniker and Bob Sundius
      The Board of Trustees recently approved a Village budget for 2009-2010 that included a 5.9% increase in taxes, with a total tax levy of $44.3 million. Substantially all of the discussion surrounding this year's budget process concerned the propriety of individual operating and capital expenditure appropriations.

Mother-Daughter Art Show Reception
      Margaret and Dianne Fleming are both professional artists from Garden City, but this show was conceived by Dianne to celebrate her mother's story. M. Fleming, a commercial artist and fine painter for over 50 years slowly lost her talent due to tremors in her right hand. 15 years later she regained control with Deep Brain Stimulation surgery.

      With Athena Spring has finally come and even the trees have begun to do their bit for the landscape. All you heard this past week were the rave reviews for Adelphi University students production of Edna Ferber's play Stage Door . The acting was wonderful, the sets and costumes in time with the era, and nothing was heard at the end but the applause from the audience.

      Our Senior walking group has become so popular that we are adding a day! Our group will now meet at Cluett Hall at 2:15 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday and walk for at least 20 minutes.       Pack 55 was proud and excited to host the Jets Quad Rugby Team this past week, as the players from the Jets showed us how to "rock 'n roll" on wheels. Quad Rugby is a fast paced action sport, where the players try to get the ball across into the Goal like football, while being played on a basketball court. It's even a contact sport!
