Doherty Completes Wrestling Season
Junior Patrick Doherty, a graduate of Chaminade High School, recently completed his third season as a member of the Gettysburg College wrestling team.
A team co-captain, Doherty was one of the Bullets' top grapplers this season, posting a 20-9 record at 157 and 165 pounds. He was the team's top finisher at each of the first three tournaments of the season, including placing fourth at the Messiah College Petrofes Tournament. Doherty finished the year on a five-match winning streak and tied for the team lead with five major decisions. Additionally, he was named a National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Academic All-American for the first time.
In three seasons on the mat, Doherty has recorded a record of 48-27.
As a team, Gettysburg finished sixth of eight teams of the conference championships. The Bullets also received the distinction of working with ABCs hit TV series "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" for an episode that aired in late January.
Patrick, who is majoring in economics, is the son of John and Donna Doherty of Garden City.
