Members of the Garden City High School class of 1950 met recently at the home of classmate Diane Webb Prescott in Vero Beach Florida to take the initial steps in planning the 60th class reunion which will take place on Long Island during the Fall of 2010. Class members have held a reunion every five years without fail beginning in 1955 and with many class members now living in Florida there have been Florida Mini-reunions in that state every year during the past ten years. Tom Langley, GCHS Principal in 1950 once described the class as "unique" and it truly was, according to Lou Irwin, longtime spokesman for the class, who noted that five couples of the class married their classmate sweethearts and have remained married to that same person. Three of those couples are still together: Bob and Kay Hunting Dillingham, Dick and Nancy Dumont Leslie, and Lou and Ginny Johnson Irwin; Pete and Myra Tolley Oram are deceased as is Millie Wagner who was married to Tom Nolan. Joe Hansen has maintained the class website and class secretary pro tem, Audrey Wilson Miner maintaines the every-changing class roster with e-mail and home addresses. Details of the planned 60th event will be posted on the website,e-mailed and snail mailed to all class members.
