Herbert W. DeMuth
Herbert W. DeMuth, a proud World War II veteran and resident of Garden City, passed away on April 11. He was 92.
He was a member of the Shriner's Lodge #456 and the Mason's Herder Lodge #698 in Whitestone. He was the beloved husband of the late Nina and the devoted father of the late Dale. Dear brother of Thelma, the late Clarmore and Arminius.
Funeral services were held at the Hess-Miller Funeral Home, Middle Village. Interment followed at Pinelawn Memorial Park.
Ellen Jean Guelpa
Ellen Jean Guelpa died February 27, 2009. Born May 13, 1947, Jean was the daughter of Edward and Mary Christensen Guelpa of Garden City.
Jean was an attorney and worked with the Superior Court of Los Angeles County. She was very active with St. Agatha's R.C. Church in Los Angeles.
She was a beloved sister, aunt, niece, cousin and friend. She was the loving sister of the late Anne Caveness and Katherine Guelpa. Jean is survived by her brothers Edward and Paul Guelpa and her beloved nieces and nephews.
Jean will be remembered on Saturday, April 18, and 5 pm Mass at St. Joseph's R.C. Church in Garden City.
Elizabeth D. Miller
Elizabeth D. Miller, age 48, died in Reno, Nevada on March 23, 2009, following a courageous 7-1/2 year battle with ovarian cancer.
Elizabeth was born May 30, 1960 in New York City to Edith E. and the late Robert L. Miller. She was raised in Garden City and attended the Cathedral School of St. Mary from grade school until high school graduated in 1978. hereafter she attended Wagner College on Staten Island where she majored in business administration. After graduating college, she obtained two additional post-graduate degrees: a fashion merchandising degree from Laboratory Institute of Merchandising and a paralegal certificate from Adelphi University. In 1989, Elizabeth married Richard W. Karnick, who died of lung cancer one year later.
Elizabeth was a multi-talented individual with numerous interests and hobbies. While she attended high school, she as president of the Athletic Association and Leader's Club as well as photography editor of the yearbook. At Wagner College, she was the newspaper's sports photographer. Among her other passions were: animals, music, gardening, traveling, fashion, horseback riding and politics. However, her greatest pride and joy was her daughter Cameron.
Elizabeth leaves behind her cherished Cameron, 9, of Reno; her beloved mother Edith Gerber and her husband, Roger Gerber (Elizabeth's loyal "uncle Roger") of Garden City, her sister, Louise Griffen of Gainesville, Florida and her long-time partner, Alex Lemus (father of Cameron) of Reno, Nevada.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2009 at 11 a.m. at The Garden City Community Church, Stewart Avenue and Whitehall Blvd. Garden City, NY. Donations in memory of Elizabeth D. Miller may be sent either to:

Robert W. Donahue
Robert William Donahue, a former Garden City resident, passed away on April 11. He was the beloved husband of the late Joan; devoted father of Alison. Cherished grandfather of Taylor and Robert. Dear brother of Elinor and Kathleen.
A Funeral Mass was held April 18 at St. Anne's RC Church. Interment took place at St. Charles Cemetery. The family was cared for by Thomas F. Dalton Funeral Home, Floral Park.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the St. Jude's Foundation.
