What a surprise we had last week, when Mother Nature gave us the hopefully last Snow Flurries of the season. To make up for this she brought us a day that followed where we saw temperatures in the low 60's. Now, that is something we were all looking forward to and let's hope it continues.

You know that spring will really be with us soon as we read of the upcoming Geranium Bridge being announced for Thursday, May 14th from 12:30 to 4 p.m. The fee will be $16 per person with the check made payable to The Cathedral Women and sent to Mrs. Elinor Rees, at 263 Emerson St., Uniondale, N.Y. 11553. Elinor will be co-chairing the event with Edythe Cox and you all know from past Germanium Bridges what a wonderful display of prizes , Lucky bucks, Sweepstakes, and those wonderful Geraniums as Table Prizes. The proceeds go to help the Cathedral Women with their philanthropic and missionary projects. In addition, it's a day of fun.

Two lovely ladies who were long time residents of Garden City, Dorothy Noll and Barbara Wilson both now at Peconic Landing in Greenport, will be joining the ladies of the South Hampton Garden Club on Monday, April 27th at Clarke Gardens to welcome Sweet Springtime that just in time to see the Native spring wildflowers and much more, before going on to luncheon at the George Washington Manor and then stopping at Martin Viette Nursery for, as the ladies put it, some serious shopping. I know these two ladies and believe me, they are always digging up the dirt in a very positive and helpful way. Good to have you two so close to us again.

Another spring event will be the A.Å.U.W. Garden City Chapter's Annual Book and Author Luncheon set for Friday, May 8th from 12 noon to 3:30 p.m. at The Swan Club; Glenwood Landing, New York. this is a beautiful spot especially in the spring and the fee of $45 pr person including a delicious lunch - you can choose from three main course offerings, plus a talk by the featured authors. They are Laurence Cone "For Candlesticks and Corset Stays" - L.I. Yankee Whalers, Monica Gold "Looking For Shelter", and John Hane's Jones Beach" an Illustrated History. Joan Stafford is accepting reservations at 1111 Cherry Valley Avenue, Garden City, N.Y. 11530, Apt. M28. Reservation Deadline is April 30th, so don't delay. This sounds like a great day.

Happy Birthday greeting go to Blanche Muller, Pauline Rudkin, and Betty Pupke, who will all be celebrating their special day on the 18th of April (no Paul Revere jokes please) along with Darlene Record who will also be blowing out the candles on her cake at the same time. May all four ladies have a wonderful day, a great year ahead and many more years to come with health and happiness for all of you.

Another long time resident of Long Island (she moved here shortly before World War II - Marian G. Langley - will be 97 on April 17th. Members of the Garden City Community Church and the A.A.U.W. who remember her should send birthday cards to her at Huntington Hills - Room 229, 400 South Service Road, Melville, N.Y. 11747. Marion lived here in town for many years and would love to hear from old friends.

Ladies from the Community Club of Garden City and Hempstead get to tour the new Performing Arts Center at Adelphia University along with the many sculptures on the grounds, and had a delightful luncheon in addition this past week. The concert hall with its new Italian Concert Grand and wonderful acoustics in the hall were displayed when the group was asked if anyone would like to try out the piano and Paula Rega - a club member on the tour- stepped forward and played to everyone's satisfaction. What a treat and a delight and good for you Paula.

More about Easter next week but I would like to leave you with a thought for this week. Our minds are a lot like parachutes - they function well only when open. See you next week.
