Mark Twain To Visit Garden City

2009-04-17 / Community

Prepare to be amused! Mark Twain, the famous American humorist and author of such classics as Tom Sawyer, The Prince and the Pauper, and Huckleberry Finn is visiting Garden City and has agreed to schedule a lecture for the benefit of the Garden City Bird Sanctuary. It is rumored that even A T Stewart is rolling in his grave upon hearing that Mark Twain is in town. Tickets are on sale now for a special and unique benefit performance on Saturday June 13th starting at 8pm. The performance will be held on stage at Gardner Hall in the lower level of the Garden City Community Church at 245 Stewart Avenue Whitehall Blvd. Tickets are $25 each. For tickets contact (516) 326-1720. Email gcbirdsanctuary@gmail.com

"Mark Twain in Garden City Tonight!" America's foremost author and humorist speaks about life, smoking, newspaper writing, religion, frogs, lawyers and Huckleberry Finn. A few stories may be read as part of the lecture, but attendees will also have the opportunity to purchase refreshments or sneak out. All proceeds are donated to the Garden City Bird Sanctuary. This is an original, 'one time only' performance by Rob Alvey based (loosely) on the award winning play by Hal Holbrook. Rob Alvey has appeared as a lead actor in many of the original musicals performed by the Garden City Community Theatre. He 'retired' from the theatre in 2006, but the Garden City Bird Sanctuary really, really, really needs the funds, so he is returning to the stage.
