The Warriors celebrate their opening win as a team with some well deserved ice cream. The GCAA baseball spring travel season started off with a bang this past Sunday, as the GC Warriors hosted the Long Island Inferno (Team 2) at Community Park. The Warriors won 11-1, relying on strong starting pitching from Billy Duff and a great closing performance from Layne Meyer, with Patrick Creaven and Matt DeSimpliciis holding the Inferno to just one run in the middle innings. At the plate the Warriors' bats were alive, with a double from Evan Jozkowski and Billy Duff going 3-for-3. Patrick Creaven had the hit of the day - a long RBI double to the centerfield fence. In the field, the Warriors defense was flawless, with Liam Widell and Tommy Powderly turning in great plays at third, and Tommy and Garrett Going behind the plate handling the pitchers like pros. The boys hustled the entire game, stole bases and backed each other up in the field. And a special thanks from the coaches and his teammates to Mark DiPierro, who has been helping manage the team while recovering from a hand injury. The Warriors look forward to getting Mark's strong arm and bat in the lineup as soon as possible. Congrats Warriors on a great start to the season!
