Stewart And Stratford Random Acts Of Kindness
Garden City students in both Stewart and Stratford Schools participated in Random Acts of Kindness (RAK) Week, February 9th through the 13th. This event, led by social worker Michele Degati, was designed to increase a positive social and emotional learning atmosphere throughout the school buildings. RAK week also sought to increase student awareness of how their actions impact and affect others. Students were provided with four "BEE KIND" hearts in class and were asked to perform four RAK's throughout the week. Once the students completed a RAK, they returned the BEE KIND hearts to their classroom teacher so that it could be placed on a string with the rest of the classes RAKs. Students completed various acts such as helping a neighbor, donating hair to "Locks of Love", cleaning his/her room unsolicited, helping a sibling complete homework, etc. Classroom teachers displayed the Bee Kind hearts outside their classrooms or contributed them to a larger display located in each school's hallway.
