Festival du Dessert At GCHS

Three dozen Garden City High School students and teachers enjoyed a culinary tour of France and other French speaking countries at last month's "Pastryfest" through the efforts of French teacher, Jeannot Barr (at right), complemented with contributions by NYC's Metropolitan Hotel pastry chefs Debra Jackson and Susan Flanagan. Preparation began four days before the event and involved multiple high school baking assistants in addition to the professional chefs and Monsieur Barr. Twenty different French delicacies were served at the dessert tasting including créme brulee, éclairs, madeleines, petits fours and crepes. Each dessert was presented with a history and interesting facts about its origin and preparation. Judging from the smiles of the attendees, the sweet treats were a smashing success!
