GCHS 12th Grade Dance And Skit Night

Lights! Camera! Graduation! The tradition continues. On March 20, 2009 the Garden City PTA hosted the annual 12th Grade Dance and Parent Skit night. This event kicks off a series of celebrations honoring the graduating class.
At 7:30 the students checked in, were handed sunglasses, and walked a red carpet to the cafeteria magically transformed into the Kodak theatre in Hollywood. Cascades of tulle studded with silver stars suspended from the ceiling. Mylar curtains created a backdrop for the dance floor and pseudo-stage. Balloons, confetti and Academy award statuettes dressed the tables. Students reminisced while viewing their posted kindergarten class photos. The DJ, and a photo slide show got the party started.
188 students attended. At 9:15, as tradition dictates, 166 parents teamed up to present a satirical look at teenage life through musical skits. Rob Engelke, as the Notorious Mr. E, introduced the production. The talented, and mostly untalented adults entertained the students who roared with laughter and pride.

As the night proceeded, 75 raffles, donated solely by the parents, were handed out. Paninis, desserts and beverages were served throughout the evening. An exceptional, successful time was had by all. Many thanks to the parent volunteers who worked tirelessly to make this event special, as well as to insure that this event, steeped in Garden City tradition, continues for future graduates to enjoy.
