GCHS Students Perform At Shakespeare Festival
      Garden City High School Theater Arts students joined drama students from across Long Island in early March at the Shakespeare Festival High School Scene Competition held at Hofstra University. The annual event is hosted by Hofstra's Department of Drama and Dance. Attending Garden City students presented Act I, Scene v from Shakespeare's Twelfth Night.

HOLA's Spanish Classes
      HOLA's Winter 2009 Spanish Classes ended this Monday, April 6th with the children singing Spanish songs and playing games. Buenisimo! Registration for the Spring 2009 session has begun. The Spanish Class program is available to children in grades K-5 and will be offered on Mondays at Stratford School. The 8 week session will begin April 20th and end June 15th.

Mathematics Teacher Of The Year
      Mrs. Arleen Brown, pictured here with Hemlock School Principal Audrey Bellovin (left) and Superintendent of Schools Dr. Robert Feirsen (right), was recently selected as the 2009 Nassau County Mathematics Teachers Association Elementary Mathematics Teacher of the Year. Mrs. Brown, who began her career in Garden City Schools in 1986, will be honored at the NCMTA Spring Dinner on May 14, 2009.

GCHS Student Named County Poet Laureate Winner
      Garden City High School senior Kristen McGeough, pictured here with guidance counselor Mr. James Malone, will be receiving an award for her poetry submission to the 2009 Nassau County Poet Laureate School Poetry Contest at the April 25th Award Ceremony Festival.

      Broadway caliber acting once again performed at St. Joseph School as the Drama Club put on "The Glass Slipper". Miss Marie Impellizeri's sophomore year as director proved as successful as her first as she organized cast and crew for this fine production.

GCHS 12th Grade Dance And Skit Night
      Lights! Camera! Graduation! The tradition continues. On March 20, 2009 the Garden City PTA hosted the annual 12th Grade Dance and Parent Skit night. This event kicks off a series of celebrations honoring the graduating class. At 7:30 the students checked in, were handed sunglasses, and walked a red carpet to the cafeteria magically transformed into the Kodak theatre in Hollywood.

      Three dozen Garden City High School students and teachers enjoyed a culinary tour of France and other French speaking countries at last month's "Pastryfest" through the efforts of French teacher, Jeannot Barr (at right), complemented with contributions by NYC's Metropolitan Hotel pastry chefs Debra Jackson and Susan Flanagan.

Stewart And Stratford Random Acts Of Kindness
      Garden City students in both Stewart and Stratford Schools participated in Random Acts of Kindness (RAK) Week, February 9th through the 13th. This event, led by social worker Michele Degati, was designed to increase a positive social and emotional learning atmosphere throughout the school buildings.
