Library Offers Free Passes To Museums

2009-04-10 / Community

National Library Week 2009 will be celebrated this year from April 13th - April 18th during spring break week with the theme, "Worlds connect @ your library." Garden City residents are invited to discover the world of New York's cultural institutions by borrowing one of the five free museum passes available to library cardholders. Through the generosity of The Friends of The Garden City Public Library, the Library offers free passes to five museums - the American Museum of Natural History, the Guggenheim Museum, the Metropolitan Museum, the New York Botanical Garden, and Old Westbury Gardens.

Museum passes may be reserved in advance and checked out by an adult (18 years and older) library cardholder in good standing who has signed a Museum Pass Agreement. Reservations will be taken up to one month in advance of the desired date, subject to availability on a first-come, first-served basis. Reservations must be done in person at the Reference Desk and will not be taken over the phone. One pass per museum per household may be borrowed within a six month period. The passes may be borrowed for three days and must be returned by one hour before the Library closes on the day the pass is due.

With many people trying to spend less, Garden City residents can come to the Library to sign up and make a reservation to borrow one of the museum passes and spend an entertaining day with the family exploring the riches of New York's museums. For more information about borrowing the museum passes, contact the reference desk at 742-8405, or visit the Library's website at www.gardencitypl.org.
