Adelphi University is proud to announce an array of prestige concerts and productions featuring world-renowned musicians, guest artists, faculty, and students in its 500-seat acoustically state-of-the-art concert hall, multipurpose black box theatre, spacious dance theatre, intimate recital hall, and upgraded Olmsted Theatre in the new Performing Arts Center (AUPAC), 1 South Avenue, Garden City. Below are all of the ticketed events offered this May:

The Adelphi

Symphony Orchestra

Saturday, May 2, 2009,

at 8:00 p.m., Concert Hall

The impressive program, conducted by Christopher Lyndon-Gee, includes Sergei Prokofiev's Violin Concerto No. 1 in D major and Richard Wagner's Die Walküre, Act One. The concert features talented Adelphi musicians, a violin solo performed by Maristella Patuzzi and artists Carol Yahr, Sieglinde and John Keyes, Siegmund.

Olmsted Theatre

This performance is the conglomerate of an Honors College Thesis Production by Craig Fox, along with the Honors College, Department of Theatre, and Young Actors, Dancers and Designers of Adelphi (Y.A.D.D.A.).

Dance Workshop 2009

Friday, May 8, 2009,

at 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.

Dance Theatre

This event features well-rehearsed and energetic Adelphi dance students showcasing their work learned in class. This is a free ticketed event.

Cabaret Theatre

Friday, May 8 to Saturday, May 9, 2009. May 8, at 7:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m.; and May 9, 7:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m., Black Box Theatre

Cabaret serves an engaging role in the Adelphi community as it turns the seemingly irreverent songs, sketches and monologues into a coherent, current theme. This year*s cabaret production is co-written and co-directed by Adelphi students Lauren Brickman '09 and Colin Murphy '09.

Opera Workshop

Saturday, May 9, 2009,

at 2:00 p.m., Concert Hall

The program is directed by Anneliese von Goerken and includes excerpts from opera and operetta pieces, and features music majors in the Adelphi Opera Theatre Workshop. Midori Howell is co-directing the performance and is the accompanying pianist.

Adelphi Jazz Ensemble

The Adelphi Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Dave Lobenstein, combines vocal and instrumental talent to create an exciting array of jazz styles. This is a free ticketed event.

Spring Film Festival

This event showcases the impressive film and video work of skilled Adelphi students throughout the semester and is presented by Works in Progress. This is a free ticketed event.

Chamber Music

Workshop Concert

Wednesday, May 13, 2009, at 7:30 p.m., Recital Hall

The concert displays a vast degree of vocal and instrumental flexibility, with styles ranging from early performance to more contemporary works, and is directed by Sidney M. Boquiren. This is a free ticketed event.
