This Mother's Day give mom a gift that is beautiful, inspiring and provides assistance to a Long Island breast cancer program. Creative Cups is a coffee table book published by the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program. It contains striking color photographs of the 247 art bras that were auctioned at a benefit for the program this spring, accompanied by stories by the artists telling what inspired them.

Creative Cups(tm) touched the hearts, minds, and artistic temperaments of more than 300 people, working alone or in groups. The Creative Cups(tm) came from all over New York: Long Island, Westchester,

Ellenville, Rochester, Canandaigua, Brooklyn, Staten Island, Harpursville, Watertown, Manhattan, Astoria, Bronx, Forest Hills, Flushing, Middletown, and Scarsdale. Forty-five were from other states. They were made by mothers and fathers, grandparents and granddaughters, sisters, nieces, godparents, friends, and breast cancer survivors; by children and teenagers, students, teachers, and co-workers; sororities, sports teams and art classes.

They honor those who have lost the battle with breast cancer and those who have survived. They celebrate the joy and beauty of life and many bring humor and lightheartedness.

The artists used many mediums to express themselves: fabric, clay, and paint; with sequins, beads, and flowers; with family memorabilia and keepsakes. They gave them with names like Mardi Bra, Time Cups, Wisdom, Erin Go Bra, Flowers for Grandma, Wonder Woman, Bronx Bombers, The Garden of Eve, Bear Breasted and The Beach.

"We think this makes a perfect Mother's Day gift," says Hillary Rutter, the director of the Adelphi program. "We think people will be amazed by the beauty and wit expressed in these Creative Cups and moved by the stories."
