Changes Needed In District'sTransportation Policy
      The transportation status of 118 students will be changed this September if the Garden City Board of Education accepts recommendations proposed by Superintendent Dr. Robert Feirsen at an April 7th work session. The alterations are needed because the school district's current transportation policy is not consistent with New York State law at the primary and elementary school levels.

Art Dept. Hears About Alaska
      The Garden Dept. and the Art Dept. of the Community Club of Garden City and Hempstead recently joined forces to present a program on "The Ring of Fire" by Alfred Urban. They had a wonderful turnout and the program was very well received. The members and their guests all enjoyed the pictures and the information on what they were seeing as well as the touch of humor that was used.

      The Eastern Property Owners' Association (EPOA) announces that after careful consideration and despite the global financial crisis it will award a $1000 scholarship to a worthy high school senior who plans to attend college full time in the Fall.       Winthrop-University Hospital's 24th Annual Golf Tournament at The Creek (Locust Valley) and Meadow Brook Club (Jericho). Golf at The Creek begins with a 10:00 a.m. brunch and registration, followed by a shotgun tee off at Noon. Two rounds of golf at the Meadow Brook Club begin at 7:00 a.m. with registration and breakfast for the morning golfers, who tee off at 8 a.m.; and 11:45 a.m.

Library Sees Record Increases In Audio, Video Circulation
      As the nation's economic crisis has deepened, the Garden City Public Library is experiencing a record increase in audio and video circulation. Circulation of audio materials, which includes books on CDs and cassettes, Playaways, and music CDs, increased 22% in 2008 over the previous year. Almost 13,000 audio materials were checked out during 2008.
