Patriettes psych-up for the game
Patriettes psych-up for the game This past weekend the Garden City U12 Patriettes traveled to Brentwood to start their spring LIJSL season. After having lost a contested battle the week before in the waldbaums cup the girls came ready to play. This weeks match started with both teams working hard to try to get that always important first goal. The Patriettes forwards consisting of Erin Rode, Becky Riefler and Margot McTiernan made a number of attempts at the opposition goal. The Patriettes made strong plays on the ball but were unable to find the back of the net. True to any good soccer match there was a lot of action on both sides of the field. During the first half when Brentwood made advances the Patriettes defense of Maddie Stone, Claudia Caracciolo, Jillian Curtin and Christie Pflume playing sweeper stopped all 1st half advances and the whistle blew with the score 0-0. The Patriettes opened up the 2nd half starting with the kick off. The Patriettes got off a couple of quick offensive strikes with Caitlyn Kaczynski, Annie Kane, Alexis Leighton and Laurel Nothel at midfield. Continuing to push the ball to the opponents net were Kelly McDonnell and Jillian Gregory at forwards. It was still a 0-0 score with less than 5 minutes left in the game when brentwood was awarded a free kick outside the 18. The Patriettes set up their defense and as she has done many times before Isabel Balady in goal made a fantastic save to keep the game even. After a few more runs by each team and the whistle blew and the game ended in a scoreless tie. The Patriettes look forward to their next game and having both Julia Biscardi and Mary Kate Kenny back in the line-up. The girls next game is this Saturday at 12:10 at St. Paul's. Good Luck Girls
