Garden City High School Fencers Take Counties

Kendall Pauley, Ryan O'Halloran, Lisa DeJoseph, Elena Tringa, Abby Hepworth, Tyler Hancock, Phillip Tangel, Bryan Sullivan The Garden City Board of Education recently honored the boys and girls fencing teams for a wildly successful season. The girls' team, led by captains Abby Hepworth, Lisa DeJoseph, and Elena Tringa, won their first Nassau County Championship in six years. The boys' team, led by captains Tyler Hancock, Kendall Pauley, and Bryan Sullivan, became Nassau County Co-Champions for the second time in three years. In addition, a large group of Garden City High School fencers earned the right to compete in the Individual County Championships, hosted by Garden City. Senior Elena Tringa became County Saber Champion for the third straight time while sophomore Jan Gong repeated her win as Foil Champion. The boy's top individual fencers were Ryan O'Halleran, who placed second in saber, and Kendall Pauley, who placed third in foil.

Several fencers were honored with County awards: All Long Island - Srey Beaulac, All County First Team - Jan Gong, Srey Beaulac, Abby Hepworth, Bryan Sullivan, and Tyler Hancock, All County Second Team - Lisa DeJoseph, Kathryn Montgomery, Caitlin Sullivan, Kendall Pauley, and Ryan O'Halleran, All County-Honorable Mention - Liz Mallozzi, Alex Webster, Mike Szuba, and Phil Tangel.

Sabre Boys
Sabre Boys Both Garden City teams were led by a strong group of seniors. The girls' team and coach Michael Kreidman will greatly miss seniors Abby Hepworth, Lisa DeJoseph and Elena Tringa. The boys and coach Anna Stithos will lose graduating seniors Tyler Hancock, Kendall Pauley, Bryan Sullivan, Eric Giacometti, Ryan O'Halleran, Phil Tangel, Xavier Alisse, and Neil Patel.
