GC Students Care About Neighbors in Need
Pictured here from left to right are Angela Mangiaracina from Family and Children's and Locust School Principal Jean Ricotta.
Students from Garden City's Locust School and Waldorf School pitched in to help their neighbors in need. These caring students organized a new pajama/personal care items drive and conducted a Valentine's Day party to benefit the runaway teen shelter and afterschool program run by Family and Children's Association. Family and Children's is one of Long Island's oldest and largest human care agencies with over 40 programs island-wide.
Students at the Locust School in Garden City graciously collected and donated seven large boxes of children's clothing, pajamas and an assortment of personal care items. These items were distributed to the teens and young people living in the Family and Children's runaway and homeless youth shelters and the children in our childcare center. Special thanks to Locust School Principal Jean Ricotta and Superintendent Dr. Robert Feirsen for their support and encouragement of this very worthwhile program.
Members of the Waldorf School Community Service Club hosted a Valentine's Day party for the children in the Family and Children's after school program operated in the Village of Hempstead. The children in the after school program enjoyed a fun afternoon of music, dancing, games, cupcakes and camaraderie. This was the second visit by the Waldorf students to assist their neighbors in need. And, they're planning more visits and celebrations with their new friends. Thank you to all the students for their generosity and compassion and Marjorie Jean-Paul, Development Director for her guidance and support.
