Wow! so much happening with the end of March. Not only did it come in like a lion at the beginning of the month, but it is going out true to form - like a lamb. In addition, we have a great photo of the Red Tail Hawk that I have been seeing in my back yard for the past couple of years. In fact he appeared in my yard the day after this paper came out with his photo on the front page. He is quite a hunter in my yard and he seems to go after the doves in particular. All part of Nature's cycle.

Next to come, and right on time, was the Garden City Unit of the American Cancer Society. While you don't have to attend it on Saturday, May 9th, you can send your check to Kristin McCormack at 88 Poplar Street, Garden City, New York 11530. You get a free Door Prize Ticket submitted in your name for every $25 contributed. The proceeds go to benefit Camp Adventure, Shelter Island, New York. Tricia Byrne and Kerriann Gambino are chairing it in this, its 21st year. Do help the ladies.

The Nominating Committee of the Garden City Branch of A.A.U.W. met and came up with a wonderful slate of officers for 2009-2010. The Nominating Committee was Chairman: Margaret Delahunt, with Regina Dowling, Mary Know, and Amy Small as Committee. Good work ladies.

Carol Rudy as chair and Joan Stafford as Hostess will hold that groups Great Decisions meeting on Wednesday, April 8th from 10 a.m. to noon on "Egypt in the 21st century." A DVD will be shown and the meeting will take place in the parlor at Wyndham.

The Thursday Luncheon Group at the Garden City Community Church will feature Arlyn Rath on "Antiques Road Show" on April 23rd. The hostesses will be Valeria Ignatowitz and Pegi DeGraf. This group is open to any senior in the community. Just bring a sandwich. Dessert, coffee, tea and program and fellowship will be provided. If you need a ride call the church office at 746-1700. It's a fun afternoon.

Happy Birthday wishes go to Reverend Jim Adelman, who will do his celebrating on April 4th and to Louise Abitable, who will also be blowing out the candles on her cake about the same rime. May they both have a wonderful day and a year ahead filled with such happiness and good health with many more years to come.

Now for the really big birthday and that is for Howard Otte who will reach the 100th anniversary at his birth on April 11th. Even if you don't know Howard, do sent a card to him as this is a milestone that most of us will never make. HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO HOWARD and may you have a great day and a wonderful party

It has been some time since I walked by the School of Social Work at Adelphi University, but I do remember "Meghan's Garden" with its bright and cheerful pansies greeting students. It was planted by Meghan's parents Monica and Larry Kenny in memory of their daughter who passed away from Breast Cancer. I believe she would have been 19 this year. If you want to plant your own garden of pansies in honor of Meghan and other victims of Breast Cancer and you buy your pansies at Hick's Nursery, they will make a donation for each pack sold to Meghan's Fund. What a wonderful way to be remembered.

From looking at the paper following the Elections for our Village Trustees, I was astounded by the low numbers. The highest turnout was only 213 people. Now I know that the Election is usually held on the third Tuesday of March and this year it was changed to Wednesday, I was told due to St. Patrick's Day. While this is a very popular holiday, not that many residents go into the city to watch the parade. In fact, it is usually held the same day as the Casino's Ladies/Luncheon/Bridge and they have always made the announcement to remember to go to the Village Hall and vote when you finish playing. Please guys - don't fool with dates that we all remember and go back to the 3rd Tuesday for this one next time.

Hope you all had a wonderful April Fool's Day with no trick's.

See you next week!!
