Free Workshops ForBreast Cancer Patients
Free workshops on Art and Reiki are offered to those who have had breast cancer. They are sponsored by the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program and held at Adelphi University's Alumni House in Garden City.
Express Yourself through Art
Wed, April 22, 2009 12:30 - 2 PM
Participants learn to see with an artist's eye and communicate their vision through drawing, using color, line, gesture and intuition. They'll see how art can express feelings and deal with diagnosis and treatment. With a hands-on approach, this is an exciting experience for the beginner artist. No experience is necessary, just a willingness to explore.
Participants should bring 11x14 all-purpose paper, pencil, pen, color markers, ruler and scissors.
Instructor Hana Davis studied at Pratt Institute, Art Students League, Parsons School of Design, FIT and the Nassau County Museum of Art. She has extensive experience as a fashion illustrator, teaches at the Sandel Center in Rockville Centre and has shown at the NCMA, the Heckscher Museum, Rockville Centre Library and private galleries. She is a breast cancer survivor.
Reiki
Tues, April 28, from 7 to 8:30 PM
Moving energy through the body promotes balance and provides deep relaxation and accelerated healing. Through gentle touch, Reiki enhances the natural ability of the body to heal itself. Participants can have an opportunity to experience this hands-on holistic technique, if they wish.
Instructor Kathie Lipinski, RN, MSN, CH, is a licensed Usui/Karuna Reiki master teacher, a holistic nurse in private practice and a certified hypnotist. She is the author of the chapter on Reiki in Complementary and Alternative Medicine: Insights and Perspectives from Leading Practitioners.
This program is open only to breast cancer patients and survivors and is supported by a grant from the LI2Day Walk to Fight Breast Cancer. Pre-registration is required. Call 516-877-4325
