GCAA Basketball Wrap-Up
GCAA Intramural basketball ends this weekend. Thanks to all the volunteers who made this a great season for GCAA basketball. Thanks to the 1000 or so players who signed up for our program. Our goal over the last few seasons has been to make intramural basketball fun, competitive and exciting for all. This season we implemented inclusion of all our 2nd graders in "full court" intramural action (boys and girls). Our K+1st clinics are developing our youngsters at a fast pace which makes them ready for game action by 2nd grade. There are too many coaches and volunteers to thank individually but to all who helped make this a great year, thank you.
Special thanks to Citibank as our League sponsor for 2008-09.
Special thanks to Greg Burke at Lane Office for his continued support as GCAA clinic sponsor.
Kindergarten clinic
Special thanks to Pat McCormack and his many volunteers this year that led to a great season for our youngest players. Our K program continues to grow in popularity. Many thought we were crazy 2 years ago when we started K clinics, but few are doubting our results now.
1st Grade clinic
Thanks to Scott Paskewitz and all the other volunteers who led our 1st grade division to a level few expected to see. Scott's group is already playing games so the transition to full court intramurals next season will be easy.
2nd graders
Thanks to Doug Oconnor and all the others for their endless work with the 2nd graders! Our 2nd grade intramural league continues to outperform. The action was great. This league will continue to grow in popularity and make GC a top basketball town eventually.
3rd Boys
Thanks to coordinators John Gallagher and Brendan Wootten who made it happen for the 3rd boys division. Our 3rd grade league has developed into an exciting intramural division. Outstanding action all season. We were able to include a playoff format for this division this season with great results.
4th Boys
Thanks to John Mixon for his efforts. Every season John seems to put together the right group of coaches who put winning secondary. Every game always seems to be within a few points.
5th and 6th boys
Thanks to coordinators Tom Granville and John Lori. With over 130 young men and 12 teams in this league, coordinating was a difficult task. The close and high scoring games in this division continue to amaze all the fans.
Girls 6th - 8th
Thanks to coordinator Dan Dignam for organizing and running this division, which turned out to be the best 'turnout year' in this age group ever. Making a competitive 6-8th girls division is not easy, great job coaches.
Girls 4th - 5th
Thanks to coordinator John Feyrer. This division proved to be a competitive one, with great action and close games. John could not have found a better group of coaches with great basketball knowledge.
Girls 2nd - 3rd
Thanks to Jim Haggerty for coordinating. We accomplished another one of our goals by moving 2nd grade girls to full court intramurals.
TRAVEL PROGRAM - Thanks to Tom Granville for his countless hours spent behind the scenes making our Travel program such a success. Thanks to Bob Basel for his weekly updates on our travel program. Thanks to our 15 dedicated head coaches and all their assistants who put in so much of their own time teaching our kids. The GCAA Travel program has become a formidable force in just a few years. We compete with LIL, Rising Stars and Fastbreak teams that draw players from many communities. We are proud to say our travel program is 100% Garden City players and we can compete with the best. We our proud to report we have numerous division winners and our 3rd grade team won the prestigious Division 1 title.
Thanks to the GC Rec Dept for their tireless efforts.
Join GCAA basketball next season, don't miss the action!
