Key Club / Interact Collects Clothing

2009-03-13 / School

The Garden City High School's Key/Interact Club has been incredibly successful in collecting clothes for the Mary Brennan INN. The Mary Brennan INN, a soup kitchen located in Hempstead, serves lunch to over 400 people a day five days a week. In addition to clothing, the Key /Interact Club has begun collecting toiletries such as small bottles of shampoo, bars of soap, tooth brushes and toothpaste. Collection boxes are located at the High School in the main office, Counseling Center and Attendance Office. Donations will be greatly appreciated.

Ryann Mc Andrews a current senior in the Key/Interact Club organized a group of club members to make 400 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches on Thursday which were distributed on Friday, to clients of the Inn. These sandwiches are needed for clients, because the INN is closed on the weekends. There is an estimated 259,000 hungry people on Long Island alone. Especially in these times of economic disparity, it is important to help out those in need.

Anyone wishing to volunteer and/or make a donation of peanut butter, jelly or bread should see Ryann McAndrews or Joanne Meyer-Jendras. Ryann McAndrews is eager to organize another sandwich Thursday.

Any questions, please call 516-478-2023 Joanne Meyer-Jendras at the Garden City High School.
