2009-03-13 / Community

Have you ever wanted to visit the "Ring of Fire" but were not in the mood to get the Passport or the Visa needed for the trip? You can make that trip without these documents on Wednesday, March 18 th at 1:30 p.m. in the Garden City Casino. The Garden Department and the Art Department of the Community Club of Garden City and Hempstead will take you there with Al Urban as your guide.

The slide lecture starts in Anchorage, Alaska and continues on to Seward, Kodiak and Kiska Islands and from there through the Bering Sea to the Kamchatha Peninsula where you will visit the city of Petropavlosk in Siberia. You will learn about the cultures that lived in those places, the countries that took them over and why, and enjoy the beautiful scenery and churches in both places. Petropavlosk is the largest port on the Kamchatha Peninsula and was named for St. Peter and St. Paul, the patron saints of Russia under the czars. Questions will be answered following the presentation and during the tea hour. Community Club members and their guests are cordially invited to join him on this trip.

The Community Club offers a wide variety of quality programs, trips and creative classes from October through May. For information about membership in the Community Club, call the Club Office Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at 746-0488.
