With a regular season record of 13-4 Garden City's girls basketball team began the playoffs as the top seed in their division. On February 13th, in the first round of the playoffs, the Trojans played host to Valley Stream North. Junior Diana Leondis had 11 of her 13 points and five of her eight assists in a 27-11 first quarter. Barbara Sullivan had 10 of her 16 points in the first quarter as well. GC went on to win 66-37 enabling the team to advance to the quarterfinal game against the Westbury Green Dragons. Also scoring for the Trojans were: Katie Poppe (14), Kim Ryan (5), Kerry Hosford (4), Seva Mahramas (2), Christina Mangels (2), Katie Trimmer (2), Alyssa Rosello (2), Elizabeth Stutzmann (2), and Amalia DeBrosse (2).
The quarterfinal game against Westbury's Green Dragons on February 18th seemed to be going the way of the Trojans. Garden City held a 23-16 lead going into halftime but the Green Dragons, with some renewed energy, came out strong in the second half and caught up enough to tie the game at the end of regulation and force overtime. Westbury's Marlene Ricketts hit a three-pointer to put her team up by three early in overtime. She made four free throws down the stretch to help the Green Dragons upset Garden City 62-59. Leading the scoring for Garden City was Diana Leondis who scored 32 points, including a three pointer in overtime. Also scoring for GC were: Barbara Sullivan (16), Katie Poppe (6), Kim Ryan (3), and Katie Trimmer (2).
