There was an old saying that if March came in like a lion, it went out like a lamb. Let us hope that this will come true for us as most folks are tired of winter and are looking forward to spring. Mother Nature has given us some peeks at spring and the snowdrops are in bloom as you read this. Even the daffodils are coming up during the brief look at spring from last week.

Keep your hopes up and before you know it winter will have gone to sleep until next year.

We have had some very sad news during the past couple of weeks and that is of the passing of three well known ladies and one gentleman from Garden City. Elle Steitz, a well known speaker on flower arranging and a lady with a wonderful sense of humor, passed away on Valentine's Day. Ella was a strong member of the Garden Club of Garden City, a Flower Show Judge, and was always involved with decorating the Nassau Blvd. Station at the Long Island Railroad. She was a member of the Couples Club of the Garden City Community Church. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family at this time.

Joan Repetto also passed on during the past couple of weeks. A long time resident of Garden City, Joan loved music, played the piano and sang with a very deep alto voice. She had been the Choral Director of the Choral Group for the Garden City Branch of the AAUW She was a devoted member of St. Jsoeph's Roman Catholic Church and also sang in the Adelphi Chorus. Her husband pre-deceased her and our thoughts are again with her family at this time.

June Michel also left us recently and she will also be missed by all who knew her. June worked in real estate for many years and was known, liked and trusted by all her customers. She was with Dougall Fraser's office and they paid her a wonderful tribute in a recent issue of their paper. Our thoughts and prayers go to her daughter Jill in this time of sorrow.

Allan Bick also passed on recently and he, too, was a long time resident and member of the Garden City Community Church. His lovely wife Marie passed away some years ago, Always helpful with her in their work at Clark Gardens, he will be missed by his family and friends and by all who knew him.

The happy birthday wishes go to the gentlemen this week and Don Muller tops the list with his special day on March 8th. He will be followed by Tom Bradley, who will be blowing out the candles on his cake on March 14th. May both gentlemen have a wonderful day and a great year ahead in which to enjoy both health and happiness with many more years to come.

St Patrick's Day is coming and the ladies of the Rosary Altar Society of St. Joseph's will kick off with a Sandwich and Dessert Card Party on Friday, March 13th (you can see they are not superstitious) at the St. Joseph's School Auditorium from noon to 4 p.m. Marie Kelly is taking the reservations at 27 Clinton Road, Garden City, New York 11530 in the amount of $20 per person. Be sure and get your reservations in for a wonderful afternoon and plenty of luck to you.

The Wine and Cheese Party for the Garden City Branch of AAUW was cancelled due to winter weather and has been re-scheduled for this Sunday, March 8th. Mary Ann Garrett will be the hostess for this event and they are hoping for better weather as they celebrate St. Patrick's Day.

Carol Rudy will chair that same group's Great Decisions section on Wednesday, March 11th from 10 a.m. to noon in the Parlor at the Wyndham. their topic for discussion will be Energy and the Global Economy. A DVD on the subject will be shown. This group is always on the cutting edge.

On the lighter side, the AAUW will co-sponsor a program to take place at the Garden City Library on Friday, March 13th at 10 a.m. It will be "Great American Music: Broadway Musicals" and feature the Contrasts between Irving Berlin and Jerome Kern. This presents music we all know and love. The series is a result of the co-operation between the Friends of the Garden City Library and the Garden City Branch of the AAUW Do join them for a wonderful morning.

Don't forget to spring ahead this coming Sunday as we advance our clocks by one hour. After all, you don't want to be late for anything, do you?

See you next time.
