Robert Hoyt Block, who holds a Ph.D. in history from Duke University, was the speaker at the January 21 st meeting of the Community Club. Before retiring, Dr. Block taught U.S. and European history at Nassau Community College.

Dr. Block explained that to the Islamic world one of the worst things that ever happened was the breaking up of the Ottoman Empire at the end of World War I. He also pointed out that about one-tenth of one percent of the one million Muslims are terrorists.

Geraldine McHugh, vice chairman of the Americanism/Current Events Department, was assisted by Anne Marie Smith and Marjorie Brown, who greeted members, Carol Countryman and Alice Dillon, who welcomed guests, and Josephine Krawczyk, who provided the decorations.
