Sister Joan Dawber who will speak at the March 2 Joan S. Dawber, S.C. will be the guest speaker at the March 2 nd meeting of the Garden City Branch of the American Association of University Women at the Garden City Library at 7:30 p.m. Her topic will be "Women Helping Other Women."

Sister Joan has been a member of the Sisters of Charity of Halifax for 26 years and had worked as a Pastoral Associate in Brooklyn and Queens for 20 years. Recently, she has begun to create and work full-time in a ministry to combat trafficking in persons. In December, 2007, Sister Joan established Lifeway Network , a not-for-profit corporation to combat human trafficking. As Executive Director, she works in co-operation with others to create safe homes for victims of human trafficking in the New York area. Sister Joan is also co-chair of the New York Coalition of Religious Congregations - Stop Trafficking in Persons and serves on the Sisters of Charity Global Concerns Resource Team. It promises to be a most informative evening.
