Thomas Demitrios Halikias, DDS
Thomas Demitrios Halikias, DDS, formerly of Whitehall Blvd. in Garden City, died peacefully on February 8, 2009 in New York City where he resided. He was born in Brooklyn, New York on November 19, 1933, the youngest of seven children to Amalia and Demitrios Halikias. He graduated from Xavier High School in New York City, Georgetown University, and the University of Pennsylvania Dental School. After graduating dental school he served as a captain in the US Army and was stationed in Paris, France wherer he met his wife Margarita Sanchez Halikias. They moved to Garden City after his service in France and lived here for 40 years. Dr. Halikias had a private dental practice in Floral Park, New York. In 2005, they moved to New York City.
Dr. Halikias is survived by his wife of 50 years, Margarita, and his three children, Katherine Halikias Montgomery, Thomas T. Halikias and Jason Demitrios Halikias and their families which include 8 grandchildren. They are his son-in-law David H. Montgomery, MD and children Nina, Cece, Will, Sophie and Tommy Montgomery of Ridgewood, New Jersey; and Lisa Sabo Halikias and children Jason, John and James Halikias of Rumson, New Jersey. He is also survived by two brothers Robert Halikias and Angelo Halikias.
Services were held at Frank E. Campbell Funeral Chapel in New York City on Thursday, February 12th. He was buried with his parents and grandparents at Mount Olivet Cemetary in Maspeth, New York on Friday, February 13th after a church service at St. George Greek Orthodox Church in New York City. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 307 West 54th Street, New York, New York, 10019.
